  • Hormonal Imbalance : Excessive consumption of licorice has been linked with hormonal imbalances due its effect on cortisol production by blocking enzymes responsible for breaking down hormones like testosterone or estrogen resulting into increased risk for developing certain types cancer including breast cancer .  

  • Liver Damage : Consuming high amounts (more than 2g/day )of liquorices over extended periods may lead liver damage due presence glycyrrhetinic acid ,which is toxic when taken at higher concentrations . Symptoms include jaundiced skin , dark urine etc..

  • Interference With Medications : Licorisce interacts negatively with several medications like diuretics , antibiotics etc.,by reducing their effectiveness so it should not be taken without consulting your doctor first before taking any medication while using this herb .
